Warehouse
The Midpoint National distribution center contains more than 70,000 square feet of office, warehousing, and order processing space. The building is of reinforced concrete construction with 22-foot ceiling heights, and eleven truck docks. It is sprinklered throughout. It also contains a sophisticated centrally-monitored fire and burglar alarm system, with numerous smoke detectors, water flow monitors, and motion detectors inside the building. Over 400 feet of power conveyor serves the pick/pack area. There is also virtually unlimited additional off site storage space available to handle any overflow.
Operations
Barcode scanning and radio frequency transmission directs all warehouse operations, thus ensuring the highest possible levels of accuracy. High cube pallet racking and flow rail picking sections are located throughout the building. In addition to narrow-aisle reach trucks and electric pallet jacks, high-rise electric order pickers make pallet rack locations available for order picking as well as storage. There is a locked security area in the building for items of exceptional value, but by its nature it is limited in space. The operating system tracks inventory movement, sales, returns, hurts and status changes. Midpoint National conforms to specific account shipping guidelines including ASN and EDI capabilities. Midpoint National is contracted to process orders via EDI, fax and credit card, and ships and processes returns within a 24 hour time period.
Computer System
The Midpoint National computer system has been custom designed to fulfill the needs of Midpoint Books, its publishers and customers. Systems and processes are continually monitored and enhanced -- both to react to industry changes, and to create improvements that offer Midpoint Books and its publishers more flexibility and competitive advantage. Our newly designed website (2007) offers publishers instant access to all key data related to their accounts. They are able to access in real time monthly statements, return reports, shipping reports, open order reports, and backorder reports.
Shipping
When compared with many other locations, our "Midpoint USA" shipping point offers some additional benefits in delivery time and overall customer satisfaction. Faster delivery is usually achieved regardless of shipping mode. Truck shipments by common carrier can reach either coast in two days, while both UPS and FedEx deliver to most of the country within one to three days, at regular non-priority rates. Even postal shipments tend to get to their destinations faster when shipped from Kansas City.
